BioI'm a Canuck pursuing a Master's degree in the States.
I participated on the JET Programme from 2003 to 2006, and Japanese culture remains a big part of my life. I loved my time in Aomori, liked Tohoku, and anything to do with northern Japan makes me natsukashi~~
J-culture wise, I'm interested in a variety of things, with kimono topping that list. Over the years in Japan, I briefly studied Ikebana and nihonbuyou (Japanese dance), and am looking for classes in my area. I really like taiko concerts and festivals. I dabble with the Japanese language, but I'm nowhere near fluent or good at it. XD
Family and friends are very important to me, even though they're scattered across the globe. My mom is my role model and hero, and has been for as long as I can remember. Many are from growing up, but some are internet only, but that doesn't decrease the affection I feel for my buds. I am proud to know some truly inspiring, honest, caring, friendly, and just downright awesome people.

mriswith since May, 2002, and we're doing well enough together. We were recently engaged in December of 2008, and are planning a 2010 wedding. :) Some of my friends have truly inspiring relationships, and I hope we can achieve that.
I'm a procrastinator, but I'm slowly getting better. I guess grad school is helping me fix that!
I like artsy, creative things, even if I don't get to do them often enough.
I like to travel, love road trips, and sometimes trying new things (like skydiving, or bungee jumping).
I like manatees & dugongs, dragons, and things with apples on them. And I love cats.
I collect Hidamari no Tami (AKA "Nohonhon"/solar-powered bobble-headed things).
I love reading! And chocolate and candy.
I still like some anime, movies, and TV (and even though I haven't watched this season due to time restrictions, I like: Heroes, House, Life, Eli Stone, Chuck & home improvement/fashion shows).
I am trying to develop my knowledge of tea, but all I know is that I like to drink it and have tea service. I'll leave the knowing of tea up tonessun.
I want to be more confident in myself and my abilities.
I want to be able to express myself (verbally & visually).
I want to be comfortable in my skin, and learn to be a bit more adventurous with my fashion and style (I need more money for shoes, bags, and accessories! lol).
I tend to write about Japanese culture or the lack thereof in my city, what's going on in my life, studies/school, and things that catch my eye. Costuming is on the back burner due to school, so there won't be many costuming posts for a long time, but that doesn't keep me from looking for new costume ideas! *bad girl*

I'm not always about immediate and/or reciprocal friending (I tend to read your journal a bit first to get a feel for you as a person), but I don't mind if you friend me or unfriend me as you will (what's all the drama for, anyway?
